More Info

📜 Ownership & History:

  • This is a California car retailed in Texas. The second owner brought it to Minnesota (Owatonna) when it was purchased by the current owner (Jordan, MN) in 1990.
  • The current owners undertook a comprehensive, professional, and impressive frame-off restoration in 1990-91. No expense was spared inside or out.
  • From day one, this car has been treated as a show car (but not a “trailer queen”). No gravel, intentionally avoiding rain, gentle use, careful storage.
  • Cosmetics are mint: Uniform panel gaps, deep luster paint, great condition vinyl roof with no leaks or weak spots, bright chrome and stainless, clear glass, and a crisp, deluxe Pony cabin.
  • Title: Clean Minnesota title in hand
  • Reason for sale: Alas, time marches on, and the current owners no longer have the time to enjoy this car and want to see it pass to new owners who will show it, protect it, and carry on their legacy.

Important Info

  • Odometer: 66,157 original miles (verified; 26,457 driven since 1990-91 restoration, less than 800 miles per year)
  • Engine: Original numbers matching C-code 289 V8
  • Induction: Original Autolite 2100 2-barrel carburetor, Cobra valve covers are an original Dealer option (“Cobra Dress Up Kit”)
  • Transmission: Original Cruise-O-Matic with good shift quality, kickdown, no leaks
  • Steering: Power steering, minimal play at wheel, goes down the road straight without constant tending
  • Brakes: All drums (no front disc conversion)
  • Exhaust: Stock-type system, no recent modifications
  • Axle: 2.80:1 with no noises on deceleration or turning

🛠 Recent Work

  • New battery installed in 2022.
  • Certified master mechanic reviewed all systems pre-sale (fuel system, fluids, belts, hoses).
  • Fresh detail performed by Jordan Classics in Jordan, MN, including engine bay cleaning, exterior wash and dry, carpets steamed, all surfaces cleaned and protected.

The Story & Restoration

Current owners purchased the car in 1990 and completed a comprehensive, nut-and-bolt (rotisserie-style) restoration in 1991 with an engine rebuild—no expense spared inside or out. From day one, they treated it as a show car (never a “trailer queen”): no gravel, no rain, gentle use, and careful storage. Cosmetics are mint: uniform panel gaps, deep luster paint, flawless vinyl roof, bright chrome/stainless, clear glass, and a crisp Deluxe Pony cabin.

Correctness & Options (what’s on the car)

  • Engine/Trans: C-code 289-2V V8 with Cruise-O-Matic (C4) automatic; stock induction & ignition; factory cooling and accessories

  • Comfort/Appearance: Factory air conditioning (complete, currently uncharged), Power Steering, Rally-Pac (tachometer & clock—both functioning), center console, AM push-button radio, tinted glass, vinyl roof, day/night mirror

  • Exterior Trim: Luggage rack, correct emblems & moldings, show-quality brightwork

  • Interior: Deluxe “Pony” seats & door panels, woodgrain accents, correct dash bezel & trim, excellent dash pad/headliner/carpet

  • Wheels/Covers: See “Wheels” section below (show set + travel set)

(Note: Interior was upgraded period-correct to Deluxe/Pony spec; presents as an authentic, high-quality restoration with factory-type components throughout.)

Maintenance & Use

  • Starts/Drives: Easy cold starts and hot restarts; steady idle; smooth shifts; no known leaks

  • Brakes/Steering: 4-wheel drums track straight (no pull/pulsation); tight steering feel

  • Fluids & Fuel: Regular oil changes; stored indoors; run on premium non-oxygenated fuel

  • Use Pattern: Light, fair-weather use only—never willingly driven in rain, never in snow

  • A/C: Complete and blows on all speeds; system is currently uncharged

Wheels (Show Set + Travel Set)

Included are five (5) 1966 Ford Mustang Wire Spoke Spinner hubcaps / wheel covers in new, show-only condition. The owners always drove on a separate set of “travel” covers and installed the Wire Spoke covers only for shows—so the show set remains pristine. Tires are proper-type Coker U.S. Royal 6.95×14 whitewalls.

Included with the Sale

  • Car with clean Minnesota title

  • Two complete sets of keys

  • Spare tire and jack (stowed in trunk’s liner-matching enclosure)

  • Custom jumper-cable satchel in matching trunk-liner material

  • Original owner’s manual (excellent condition)

  • Select period Ford literature in a custom car-matching satchel.

  • Select decals and stickers (as back-ups to those already present on the car).
  • Comprehensive restoration photo album (1991) + documentation packet

Important Info

  • Electrical: All lights, signals, and switches function; Rally-Pac tach & clock both work; radio operates; blower speeds OK
  • Test Drives: Broker assisted, by appointment only with proof of funds and valid insurance

🔍 Known Quirks

  • The tires are over 10 years old; prior to driving long distances or faster speeds, new tires are recommended. The current tires for the factory wheels are 14-inch 6.95 with narrow whitewall.
  • The Air Conditioning is not charged; it was last charged several years ago and was fully operational. All components are present and in working order, just not charged. The system has not (yet) been vacuum tested.
  • There are a few cosmetic issues which can be addressed with wet sanding and brightwork conditioning. See photos.
  • There is a small amount of surface rust on the leaf springs; overall the underbelly of this car is very clean and rust is not a concern on this vehicle. I recommend surface rust remediation in the first year of new ownership to provide many more years of worry-free operations.
